Adobe Bridge: Batch rename (easy)

Batch renaming is used for renaming groups of media at once. For example flower01, flower02, flower03 and so on (I like nature). It is also important when processing frames for stop-motion animations.

How to do it

In Bridge open the appropriate folder and select the desired files using box selection, shift selection, etc. Then right-click and select Batch Rename…

If you want to rename the files where they are choose Rename in Same Folder

Otherwise you can choose to rename and move to another folder or duplicate and rename the duplicates only.

In the New Filenames panel input your desired name in the field (input box) to the right of the field type dropdown (Text). Then click the + at the end

Set the second field to Sequence Number and set the number to 1

A preview of a renamed file will show in the Preview area at the bottom

Batch rename allows up to 6 digit numbers. The number of digits depends on how many files you are renaming. For example 10 files (2 digits) vs 400 (3 digits).

In this example I am only changing a few files so only need One Digit

The files will be renamed and will remain selected until deselected.

In addition to numerical, Bridge can use formats such as the date taken, current file name (so file name + desired extensions), etc.

To save time in future you can save the configuration as a preset by clicking the button with blue outline here.
